Vijay Mallya arrested, might head INDIA soon.

Business tycoon Vijay Mallya, accused of defaulting on loans worth crores, has been arrested in London and will be produced in a metropolitan court today.

India had in February asked the UK to extradite Mr Mallya, who is facing charges of money laundering and several arrest warrants in the country. CBI sources counted the arrest, which took place around 9.30 in the morning, as a big win in attempts to bring the liquor baron to justice.

Last month, the UK told India that its request had been certified by the Secretary of State.

Last week, a Delhi court put out an open-ended non-bailable warrant against the 61-year-old in a case of alleged violation of foreign exchange rules.

The flamboyant entrepreneur left India a year ago amid attempts by a group of banks to recover around Rs. 9,000 in loans to his collapsed Kingfisher Airlines.

New Delhi had cancelled Mr Mallya’s passport and asked the UK government to deport him to India.

Mr Mallya has been charged with cheating and conspiracy by the CBI that filed a 1,000-page chargesheet against him for defaulting on a 900-crore loan taken from the IDBI bank in 2009. The CBI probe found that 250 crore of this – given to buy aircraft parts – was diverted abroad.

The Curious Case of Snapchat and Snapdeal

As few people have confusion with similar sounding names such as Suresh and Ramesh, in the similar way the innocent Indian company Snapdeal faced lot of problems just because it had the word “Snap” in it.

After the controversy of  Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel terming India as a ‘poor country’, the entire nation was outraged.

To teach Snapchat a lesson, thousands of Indian users uninstalled the app and left a one-star rating. Their efforts paid off well too as Snapchat’s rating on the App Store dropped to a “single star” on Sunday morning.

But during this Snapdeal was dragged into the drama and got punished because few people confused Snapchat with it. This issue was spotted when people posted on Twitter the screenshots of Snapdeal’s App Store reviews.

This one is hilarious!

I wish people get the whole knowledge of the topic and then act henceforth. The saying “Half knowledge is dangerous ” have proved so true here.

Ola & Uber drivers to strike on Tuesday

Ola-Uber and other kaali-peeli taxi drivers have called for a one-day strike in Delhi-NCR region on Tuesday. Not only will prices surge tomorrow but people will have to wait for long to hail a cab, reported the Hindustan Times.

1-5 lakh app-based taxis in Delhi-NCR have decided not to take out their vehicles on April 18. They have planned  a protest march to chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in Civil Lines from the Majnu Ka Tila Gurudwara, said the HT report.

The drivers have renewed the stir as they feel their demands have fallen on deaf ears — “neither the companies nor the Delhi government has done anything,” they claim.
Sarvodaya Driver Association of Delhi (SDAD) is leading the  protest. It is the same drivers’ union, which had organised the previous strike earlier this year in Delhi.

“Nothing has changed since our February protest. Drivers continue to slog for 16-18 hours daily and still are barely earning enough to eat and pay the car EMIs. Fares of registered city taxis can only be fixed by the government, whereas, Ola-Uber still continue to levy their own rates,” said Kamaljeet Gill, president SDAD.

“Drivers of Ola-Uber are suffering because they are working like bonded labourers and are earning pittance. Like we have always been demanding, they also want meters installed in cabs and rates to be fixed by the government. Our issues have now become common and so we will fight together,” said Sanjay Samrat of Delhi Taxi Tourist Transporters Association.

He added that the app-based cab companies are flouting laws as well as directions issued by the Supreme Court. “Cabs are illegally being run on shared basis. Ola and Uber are giving away cars with AIT permits to drivers on a small down payment of R 35,000. As per the law, vehicles with these permits cannot be run on point-to-point basis,” Samrat said.

After eight consistent auditions, producer David Heyman told Emma and fellow applicants, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, that they had been cast for the roles of the three leads, Hermione Granger, Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001) was Emma’s cinematic screen debut. The film broke records for opening-day sales and opening-weekend takings and was the highest-grossing film of 2001. Critics praised the film and the performances of the three leading young actors. The highly distributed British newspaper, ‘The Daily Telegraph’, called her performance “admirable”.
