This time, we are writing about the couples who are no more interested in working together.

Movie Time: Mary Kom

 

Priyanka Chopra hits a walloping punch with her performance as Mary Kom

Mary Kom is a biographical sports film based on the life of Indian boxer and former boxing World Champion MC Mary Kom also known as Magnificent Mary. I guess it is the very first time I am seeing a bollywood movie made on a legendary personality who is still very much active in her field.

And yes, what a grand entry, Priyanka!.

Ajay Devgn as Bhagat Singh, Ben Kingsley as Mahatma Gandhi and Farhan Akhtar as Milkha Singh, these were some of the life-defining performances and are always a treat whenever I watch them with my bewildered eyes. Now that after watching this movie I can add Priyanka Chopra as Mary Kom in that elite list. The movie begins in earnest by showing an incident that builds her interest in boxing. The movie then tells the story of her initial struggle in training and coping up with a new sport, her immense dedication and perseverance, her passion for the sport while at the same time she is shown to be facing tough problems in her personal life too.

This film is made up of some very beautiful moments. Like there was one scene where her father he tells her to choose between him and boxing and Mary Kom chooses boxing, this scene was filled with passion. There is one turning point moment in the movie when Mary Kom after realizing that she is now a forgotten hero decides to make her comeback in the fighting ring.

Mary Kom is not just about a woman becoming a World Boxing Champion but it is a story about how she fights to reinforce the courage to save her from the ignominy from being a forgotten sporting hero.

Direction by Omung Kumar is superb. He actually came out and executed this movie brilliantly, because here there is no underdog and Omung has clearly shown his protagonist as a fighter, to be precise-a born fighter.

Priyanka Chopra has once again proved why she is the undisputed actor in this period. Those expressions, Manipuri twang and the bodily posture of a boxer and above all the way she carried on with the character with finesse was a treat to watch. She never fails to surprise!

The person who played a coach to Mary Kom had some great moments in the movie, his actng was superb and was a great mix of aggression and empathy. Darshan Kumar as a supportive friend and then the husband played his part beautifully.

Editing by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was crisp and perfect. Music was ok- not so good.

Concluding, yes, the movie is not so well made, lack some spark.  It may not entertain you in the most thrilling way, a lot could have been still done but one thing I can say that Mary Kom from the first frame to last, it actually gripped my senses.
