Today, in an all new session of THE READING ROOM, we are going to review Ri – Homeland of Uncertainty by Paulami Duttagupta.
· Book Description
The book is written in a crisp manner which brings no confusion to the reader at any point. The plot, though filled with terror and fast paced, brings in tension as the book progresses. Paulami has succeeded to convey the message that terror never brings peace and that not all can be trusted even during a secret mission.
· My View
I’ve read books that were later filmed. This is the first time I’m getting a book that is a film adaptation. Ri – Homeland of Uncertainty is based on the National award winning Khasi film named Ri. Though it is presented with great storytelling skills, the book is more of reality than of fiction. It is about the state of Meghalaya and the terrorist activities happening in the state in the name of a freedom struggle.
The characters of Manbha (the terrorist ), Emika (the journalist ) and
Kyndiah (the police officer) grab all the attention while George is a
character who makes the plot interesting. Like always, let me not reveal the whole plot. There is no deliberate effort in bringing in suspense.
The book is small, yet crisp and logical. Fiction lovers may find the
book too plain as Ri is too realistic.
