Know The Top Companies Owned By Google, Facebook and Amazon

We all know these famous companies without which our life will definitely come to a halt today. But most of us don’t know the big brands that are owned by these giant companies. So here are the top companies that are owned by Google, Facebook and Amazon:

Google:

Google is a computer software and a web search engine company that has been acquiring more than one company per week since 2010. As of in the year 2016, Google has acquired over 200 companies. But this very famous company is now owned by Alphabet.

The top companies owned by Google are:

Android

Android Inc. is one of the largest companies that Google has purchased for $50,000,000. Android Inc. wasn’t very big at that time, but it  is a multi-platform, open-source software. Hence it is the most widely used smartphone OS in the world.

YouTube

In October 2006 Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion. YouTube allows users to upload videos where anyone can watch them. In the year 2006, YouTube claimed to have 100 million video views per day, and today, it’s about 1 billion views per month. YouTube started with supporting advertisement in the year 2007 and later on it began with premium subscription channel.

Waze

Waze is a mobile map app owned by Google for $966 million. Along with GPS and speed tracking this Israeli startup lets users provide data about traffic accidents, police officers, and traffic jams, taking all that data into account to provide the fastest navigational route. Google bought it in June,2013 and integrated it into its Maps service.

DoubleClick

Google acquired this advertising software company for $3.1 billion in the year 2007. Now DoubleClick boasts in making $2.5 billion a year from display advertising business. In 2014 alone, Google’s US display revenue nearly equaled the entirety of its $3.1 billion acquisition price tag, according to eMarketer.

Nest Labs

Nest Labs Inc. is a smart thermostat and smoke alarm maker. It’s quite hi-tech system which is programmable by smartphones and also it’s self learner. For example the software can figure out what temperatures you like at what time of day and will automatically heat or cool the room accordingly. In Jan 2014 the deal was made and Google purchased it for $3.2 billion.

Facebook:

Facebook is a social networking company that has acquired more than 50 companies.

Oculus VR

Oculus is an American technology company founded by Palmer Luckey in June 2012 in Irvine, California. It specializes in virtual reality hardware and software products. Facebook acquired it for $2,300,000,000 in the year 2014.

WhatsApp

WhatsApp Messenger is a free, cross-platform and end-to-end encrypted instant messaging application for smartphones. WhatsApp Inc was acquired by Facebook for approximately $19.3 billion in February 2014.

Face.com

It was a Tel Aviv-based technology company that developed a platform for efficient and accurate facial recognition in photos uploaded via web and mobile applications. In the year  2012, the company was acquired by Facebook.

Instagram

Instagram is a mobile photo-sharing application that allows it’s users to share pictures and videos on the application, as well as through a variety of other social networking platforms. Instagram was acquired by Facebook for approximately $1 billion in April 2012.

Atlas advertiser suite

Facebook acquired Atlas advertiser suite from Microsoft in February, 2013. It provides services in online advertising. Microsoft had been searching for a buyer and the price was  less than $100 million.

Amazon:

Amazon.com  electronic commerce and cloud computing company with headquarters in Seattle, Washington. Several companies have been acquired by Amazon. Few are mentioned below:

IMDB

IMBD.com (Internet Movie Database) is an online database of information related to films, television programs and video games.  In 1998 it became a subsidiary of Amazon Inc, who then used it as an advertising resource.

Alexa

Alexa Internet, Inc. is a California-based company that provides commercial web traffic data and analytics. It was founded as an independent company in 1996 and then acquired by Amazon in 1999 for $250 million.

Audible

Audible.com is a seller and producer of spoken audio entertainment, information, and educational programming on the Internet. Amazon acquired the company in 2008 for $300 million.

DPReview

DPReview (Digital Photography Review) is a website about digital cameras and digital photography. It was launched in 1998 and later acquired in the year 2007 by Amazon.

Goodreads

Goodreads is an online community Which allows you to freely search database of books, annotations, and reviews. Goodreads was founded in 2006, and and launched in January 2007. Amazon acquired it in 2013. The price of the deal was never disclosed.
