1. Bhanu Athaiya – Best Costume Design – Gandhi (1983)
Bhanu was the first Indian ever to win the Oscar award. She won this award for the costume designing in 1983 for the super hit and critically acclaimed movie, Gandhi. She styled and designed many Bollywood actors and worked on some of the best Bollywood movies. Bhanu made India proud when she won an Oscar.
2. Satyajit Ray – Honorary Award (1992)
Satyajit Ray is the only Indian to receive an honorary award at the Oscars till date. He has been an inspiration to filmmakers across the world and his legacy remains even today. He is considered as one of the finest directors of Indian and Bengali cinema. So whole world was impressed with his vision and depiction of cinema in 1992. But Ray could not attend the ceremony because he was not well and lying on a hospital bed.
3. Resul Pookutty – Best Sound Mixing – Slumdog Millionaire (2009)
Indian film sound designer, sound editor and mixer. Resul Pookutty won the award for Best Sound Mixing for his contribution to Slumdog Millionaire at the Oscars 2009.
4. A.R. Rahman – Best Original Score – Slumdog Millionaire (2009)
A.R, Rahaman is a great music composer, music producer, singer, songwriter, and musician. He is considered as one of India’s most respected music directors. Rahman won an Oscar for Best Original Song “Jai Ho” for the film Slumdog Millionaire along with Gulzar. And he also won one more oscar personally for Best Original Score for Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire.
5. Gulzar – Best Original Song – Slumdog Millionaire (2009)
Gulzar won an oscar for the song “Jai Ho” for the film Slumdog Millioniare along with A.R. Rahaman. He is a legend in himself.
